RTE Build Your Own Home viewers 'amazed' by transformation after brand new 'must watch' show airs

RTE viewers were all left saying the same thing after the first episode of the new series Build Your Own Home aired on Wednesday.

The show, hosted by Australian Harrison Gardner, follows the trials and tribulations of homeowners from across Ireland as they take on the challenge of building their own home.

As the cost of living crisis continues, many families now feel that buying and building their own home is a far fetched dream.

However, the show received a chorus of praise as viewers gushed over its "uplifting and empowering" nature. Bringing hope to many that they can build a home for themselves and their families on a budget.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: " #buildyourownhome great programme realistic with the challenges faced and overcome real effort intentions and vibe well done everyone."

Another said: "Absolutely loved @harrisongardn in #BuildYourOwnHome what an uplifting and empowering show. A tonic to all the other building shows with endless and unrelatable spiralling budgets. Lovely couple who now have a lovely home too."

"#BuildYourOwnHome fantastic show! We all don't have 700K to buy a home let alone renovate it for another 100K and then turn it into a Greenhouse - the fact it wasn't fully finished but fully liveable is real life! Harrison was so refreshing to watch!", commented a third.

While a fourth said: "Great show RTE, well done #buildyourownhome and @harrisongardn Proper advice given and well received. Much admiration and respect to the couple. I hope they have the best and happiest of futures there. Lots for couples in similar position to consider."

Harrison himself is familiar with the challenges of building your own home.

He told RTE: "That's the same feeling I had as an 18-year-old in Australia when I realised that I was never going to be able to afford to buy a finished house. And the only way that I was going to get the house that I wanted was to build it myself.

"I was 27 [when he moved here], and I was ready to build my own house. I was building other people's homes for 10 years. I really wanted to have a place of my own that I could experiment, I could try things out, I could get things wrong, I could try out some of these crazy ideas I've had over the years."

Viewers were left in awe of Harrison's calm, cool and collected demeanour, with one commenting: "If a bomb went off Harrison would see the up side."

People were so blown away by the show that one was left "amazed" that it wasn't trending on social media.

They said: " #Buildyourownhome I'm amazed this is not trending. #housingcrisis. Was there no grants available to Grace and Robbie ? Couples like this deserve every assistance from Govt."

A second said: "Awesome! What an amazing couple #BuildYourOwnHome fair deuce to Harrison for his encouragement and hands on support! What a team!

"Utmost respect @Graceareed and family @harrisongardn is a new TV star. #buildyourownhome is a new must watch."
