RSAC Scottish Rally celebrates 25 years in Dumfries and Galloway

Next week’s RSAC Scottish Rally marks a milestone in the event’s history.

It’s the 25th year that the competition, based in Moffat and Lockerbie, moved to Dumfries and Galloway.

And for the past quarter of a century its received backing from the council.

The rally, part of the Scottish Rally Championship, is one of the local authority’s signature events along with the Big Burns Supper, Spring Fling and Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival.

This year, it has received £18,000 worth of support from the council.

Communities committee chairman, Archie Dryburgh, said: “Dumfries and Galloway is a special place for rallying. The forests provide the natural terrain, and there is a celebrated history of fine drivers and rallies in the region.

“This may be the reason for the longevity of the rally in Dumfries and Galloway.

“It is always warmly welcomed, and it is a signature event within the council’s events strategy.

“The community values the superb live sport that the rally organisers bring to the south west of Scotland. It really is a standout occasion in our events calendar.

“The council is proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of bringing the rally to south west Scotland. The driving force behind the rally is not only the officials and clerk of the course, but our wonderful marshals and volunteers.

“Your support each year that enables the rally to run safely and efficiently.”

The RSAC Scottish Rally, which is in its 76th year, will start from Lockerbie Lorry Park on the morning of Saturday, July 23.

Crews will battle it out over 42 miles of forest stages, with the finish and prizegiving taking place in Moffat in the afternoon.
