The Royal Family will stick together, avoiding a tit-for-tat row after the second part of Harry and Meghan's documentary came out, The Mirror can reveal.
An insider said that despite "astonishing claims" made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, royals will "maintain a dignified silence" and not comment on the series.
A royal source said: “Some astonishing claims have been made but the family are determined to stick together and maintain a dignified silence.
“They will not be dragged into a tit for tat row.”
Royals united tonight as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launched all-out war on the institution.
In the latest Netflix documentary, Harry says he was left “terrified” of his brother as William launched an angry outburst and claimed his father Charles lied to him, as he tried to negotiate leaving his royal role.
For the first time ever Harry claimed it was his decision to step back as a working royal, not his wife’s, but blamed palace officials working for the King and Prince of Wales for deliberately leaking “negative” information to make him and his wife look bad.
But tonight, William and the King put on a united front as they were joined by the Princess of Wales, the Queen Consort, George and Charlotte and other senior royals for her annual ‘Together at Christmas’ carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
The King and Prince of Wales will be handed a full briefing on the allegations made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including further claims they were abandoned as Meghan suffered a mental breakdown and courtiers engaged in a briefing war with each other to discredit Harry and Meghan.
For the first time ever Harry claimed it was his decision to step back as a working royal, not his wife’s while also revealing how he was forced to go along with a joint statement that he did not sign disputing reports that William bullied him out of the family.
He branded the plot, delivered on the same day he held a fractious meeting with Charles, William and the Queen dubbed the “Sandringham Summit”, a “lie to protect my brother”, adding: “There was no other option at this point.
“I said ‘We need to get out of here’.”
As an emotional eulogy was delivered at the Abbey to celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Elizabeth II after her passing, aged 96 in September, Buckingham Palace tonight continued to refuse to comment on the raft of damaging allegations.
Emotional Harry, 38, said it was “heartbreaking” after realising William had broken a promise they made as young men that they would “never ever” follow in the footsteps of their parents, who engaged in a toxic war against each other after the breakdown of their relationship.
The Duke also claimed members of the family were upset that Meghan was “’stealing the limelight’ or “doing the job better than the person who is born to do this”, suggesting his role as “spare” to heir William was magnified after Meghan arrived on the scene.
Harry went on to claim Charles, 74, warned him over engaging in a war on the media as he alleged a “dirty game” was being played out by the Palace to tarnish his and Meghan’s reputations.
But in a further broadside against several Palace staff who accused Meghan of bullying them out of their jobs, Harry labelled the claims “institutional gaslighting”.
Meghan also blamed the media for destroying her relationship with her estranged father, despite Thomas Markle selling stories to the media before her wedding.
The Duchess revealed for the first time how she was advised to write to Mr Markle begging him to stop speaking to the press, but was left devastated when he published sections of the letter in a Sunday newspaper.
In an extraordinary claim, Harry suggested Meghan suffered a miscarriage due to the stress of engaging in a High Court battle with Associated Newspapers, owner of the Daily Mail and MailOnline, over the publication of the letter.
Meghan subsequently sued the current publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), and won in 2021 after The Mail On Sunday published parts of the “personal and private” letter.
Other revelations included Harry saying he told his father, now the King, that he and Meghan were willing to relinquish their Sussex titles if a move to Canada did not work out - despite them still trading off the titles to earn millions in the corporate world.
The pair also discussed the online abuse Meghan experienced, with the duchess breaking down in tears as she talked about receiving death threats, saying the negative media coverage had made people say they wanted to kill her.
Other footage showed Harry holding up his phone to Meghan to show her a text from William, with Meghan reacting with “wow” as she looked at the screen.
In further insights into their celebrity lifestyle, Meghan showed off a text message from pop superstar Beyonce praising her “bravery and vulnerability” following her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Royal sources suggested the family would have to consider Harry’s claims regarding the Queen summoning him with Charles and William to Sandringham in January 2020 to resolve the Sussexes’ future plans.
He described William’s dealings with him and accused his father Charles of lying, but said the Queen remained passive.
“It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me and my father say things that just simply weren’t true, and my grandmother quietly sit there and sort of take it all in,” the duke added.
Harry said he was given five options, ranging from “all in, no change” to “all out”, and he chose option three - “half in, half out”.
“It became very clear very quickly that that goal was not up for discussion or debate,” he added.
The timing of a meeting was, he said, deliberately arranged so Meghan could not attend.
Sources have suggested there is “no way back” for Harry and Meghan into the royal fold ahead of the King’s coronation next May.
The Mirror told this week how Harry is now contemplating a series of interviews with US television networks ahead of his memoir titled “Spare” released on January 10.
Burgundy seemed to be the hue of the evening as Kate, her sister Pippa Middleton and Kate’s royal cousin-in-law Zara Tindall, all donned burgundy coats to attend the carol service.
Zara, who has been billed as Prince Harry ’s closest royal ally, put on a united front as she arrived with Kate’s family including her mother, Carole Middleton.
Kate arrived wearing a burgundy coat dress by London-based label Eponine. Zara and Pippa’s outfits were similar knee-length coat dresses.
