'Royals should pay for Platinum Jubilee celebrations, not use taxpayers' money'

It is lovely to see many people joining forces and celebrating, especially after the last couple of years we’ve been through.

And you can’t put a price on bringing communities together.

But, according to last year’s budget, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has funnelled £28million of taxpayers’ money into the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Please don’t lock me in the Tower of London for saying this but, with the cost of living and child poverty rising, wouldn’t it be nicer if the Royal Family paid for their party themselves? The huge boost to the economy is, of course, going to be very welcome but it would be even more so if we were not using any taxpayers’ money.

Call me unpatriotic if you like, but I just see the value of more social workers and ambulance drivers at a time when we keep being told there is no money in the pot and children’s school meals are getting smaller.

Couldn’t the Royal Family at least put a memo out to ban all the plastic flags and bunting? I’ve been informed it was all paper and cloth in the 70s. But we are living through something historic The Queen is the first monarch to reign for 70 years, which is incredible.

And then it happened, I saw a floral jubilee tea party set (made out of card), it had a cake stand and I couldn’t resist.

Then I saw some biodegradable bunting and a scone recipe online and that was it, I was already making the invitations and hiring a bouncy castle.

The Queen’s been in service a long time. I thought, better show my appreciation – is it jam first or cream ma’am?
