The Royal Family has reportedly been left baffled and refusing to respond to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their request for an apology in the wake of their bombshell Netflix documentary.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are understood to want to arrange a meeting with members of the Firm following their Netflix show.
Harry and Meghan reportedly feel they have been subjected to "double standards" after Lady Susan Hussey apologised to charity boss Ngozi Fulani after asking her where she "really came from" during a Buckingham Palace reception.
But the Palace doesn't seem to be in a forgiving mood with Harry and Meghan, with one source telling The Sun : “Who’s apologising to whom?”
Another added: “The King does not want to get involved in a public tit for tat.”
Royal expert Nigel Cawthorne told the paper: “It’s a bit rich after what they’ve done. For the King to offer any conciliation would be below the dignity of the Crown. Harry doesn’t understand that the relationship with his father has changed. And don’t forget we’ve still got Harry’s book Spare coming out, so things are only going to get worse.”
Mr Cawthorne added that the viewing figures for the Harry and Meghan extravaganza "have been phenomenal", but people "haven’t been sympathetic to them".
Reports also suggest that Prince William has no intention of reaching out to his brother following the Netflix saga.
In the Netflix series, Harry claimed William left him "terrified" after screaming and shouting at him during the Sandringham summit.
Harry also claimed that Kensington Palace “lied to protect my brother” when it issued a statement denying a story suggesting William had bullied his brother out of the Royal Family.
One friend of William's told the Times: “I don’t think a great deal has really surprised anyone. It has been pretty obvious that things have been very strained for a while. There is sadness at where things currently are with his brother.”
King Charles is said to be taking a reconciliatory approach to the situation with an invitation to his coronation on May 6 if they wish to attend.
The Sussexes are understood to have not yet received an invitation.
The King also reportedly does not want to strip the Sussexes of their titles in the wake of the documentary, despite calls from some MPs.
Downing Street has also confirmed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is not in favour of such action.
