American people hate King Charles for 'breaking Princess Diana's heart, says a senior journalist at ABC News.
And she also believes that they still 'hold a grudge' against Charles for how his late wife was treated - with many even believing Queen Camilla 'took Diana's place'.
According to a poll, nearly 70% of Americans viewed the late Queen Elizabeth II favourably, but her son's popularity is not on the same level.
Deborah Roberts, the Senior National Affairs Correspondent for ABC News, thinks a lot of Americans still haven't got over what happened almost three decades ago.
Speaking to Radio Times this week, she said: "[Charles] is austere and a little bit standoffish – his mother was, too, but we didn't have a lot of female heads of state around the world when she was ruling."
Roberts, who travelled to London to cover Harry and Meghan's wedding, the Platinum Jubilee and the Queen’s funeral, thinks the notion of a king feels "more outdated" to most people than a queen.
Due to their strong affinity with Diana, it's claimed that many Americans still harbour bad feelings towards both Charles and Camilla.
Roberts continued: "Charles is a man who a lot of people associate with breaking Princess Diana's heart, and Camilla is going to be referred to as Queen, not Queen Consort.
"So there's that feeling that another woman is taking Diana's place next to the king on the throne."
When questioned why Americans are still fascinated by the monarchy, Roberts explained that many pretend not to care but they like looking from afar.
"The royal family are just as messed up as any other family and we kind of like seeing that," she added.
Will Americans be tuning in to the coronation? ABC received 3.1 million viewers for Queen Elizabeth's funeral and 6.3 million for Harry and Meghan's wedding.
The coronation will also take place at 5am in New York and 2am Los Angeles time, so it also depends on how dedicated most Americans are to watch the event in real time.
Prince Harry is planning to return to the US just two hours after his father's Coronation ends so that he can celebrate his son Prince Archie's birthday with his family.
The Duke of Sussex is travelling to the UK without wife Meghan Markle - as she will be staying at home with Archie and Lilibet.
An insider claimed Harry will be "in and out of the UK in 24 hours" and that he will leave after the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey.
The ceremony is expected to end at 1pm so it is believed that the Duke could head to the airport straight after, possibly leaving the country at around 2pm or 3pm.
