There were no injuries reported as a result of the blaze, but the white vehicle was damaged extensively.
PSNI Sergeant Smyth said: "Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze.
"There are no reports of any injuries at this time.
"Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident, which we are treating as arson.
"We would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dashcam or other footage to contact police on 101 quoting reference 114 of 28/10/22."
A Belfast Trust spokesperson confirmed that a nurse at the RVH had been affected.
"Staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital are currently looking after a nurse supplied by a recruitment agency whose camper van has been destroyed, along with all his possessions, in a fire," they said.
"This has been a very traumatic experience for this young man and our staff are working alongside his agency in an attempt to secure suitable accommodation for him, and support him during this extremely difficult time."
