Royal staff slams Prince Harry after 'breath-taking arrogance' over TV interview

A royal insider has accused Prince Harry of 'breath-taking arrogance' after he gave an interview on US TV where he said he wanted to see the monarch 'protected.'

The Duke of Sussex sat down for a tell-all chat with NBC TV host Hoda Kotb, which was broadcast on American morning show Today.

In the interview Harry claimed he was making sure the Queen has "the right people around her" to "protect" her.

He added that it felt great being back with his grandmother but insisted the US was now his "home" - for the time being.

He said: "It was great, it was really nice to see her in some element of privacy, which was nice.

"I haven't had a chance to go back to the UK for a couple a years apart from those times, once for my grandfather's funeral and once for unveiling a statue of my mum.

"Being with her, it was great.

"It was just so nice to see her … She’s on great form. She's always got a great sense of humour with me and I'm just making sure she's protected and got the right people around her."

Now, an insider has reportedly spoken of their shock at what was described as 'breath-taking arrogance' after the interview.

A royal source told the Daily Mail: "It is the Queen's birthday and despite a difficult year people are working full steam ahead on making her Platinum Jubilee an event to remember that properly honours such a remarkable woman.

"She just doesn't deserve this.

"I have no idea what intention he may or may not have had in saying this, but Harry needs to start thinking before he opens his mouth."

Elsewhere in the interview the prince spoke of how the United States now feels like his home and he praised the community in which he is currently living.

He said: "You know, home — home for me, now, is you know, for the time being, is in the states.

"We've been welcomed with open arms and it's got such a great community up in Santa Barbara."

Harry and Meghan met the Queen at Windsor Castle last week on a secret stop-off before the Invictus Games in the Netherlands.

They also saw Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in a closely-guarded visit to Windsor Castle.

However they did not meet Prince William, who is believed to have been on a skiing holiday in the French Alps last week with wife Kate and their three children – although they were aware of Harry and Meghan’s visit.
