Summer is well and truly here with many people taking a break from everyday life to enjoy a holiday.
And the royals are no different and often use August as a time to chill out and recharge their batteries by leaving their palaces and taking a short break. But with the world at their fingertips, where are the royals heading? Are they enjoying staycations or are they jetting off the far-flung destinations? Well, here we take a look at where some of them, including the Queen, Prince William and Kate have reportedly travelled to this summer - and why they've picked these destinations...
Prince William and Kate Middleton - Isles of Scilly

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly whisked their children away to a car-free private island for a sunny staycation.
The couple stayed in the UK for their annual summer holiday and are believed to have taken Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to Tresco, part of the Isles of Scilly, for the a third year running.
The family also headed to the islands off the coast of Cornwall, which are known for their beautiful beaches, for breaks the past two summers.
And it is clearly a place they very much enjoy if they have decided to carry on returning year after year.
Their holiday destination was revealed by the Mail on Sunday, which claims the Cambridges spent two weeks on the island.
It added that joining them on the holiday was their black spaniel Orla - and the family stayed in a rectory that comes complete with a walled garden.
Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex - Corfu

Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex also reportedly made the most of their summer downtime.
It's been reported that the Queen's youngest son, his wife and their two children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, enjoyed a sun-soaked two-week break last month on an island very popular with Brits.
And not only is the destination known for its beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery, but it also has a link to the late Prince Philip.
According to the Daily Mail, the Wessexes headed to the Greek island of Corfu for their first holiday abroad since the pandemic.
Philip was born in Corfu in June 1921 in a villa called Mon Repos that had once belonged to King George I of Greece.
The Queen - Balmoral

The Queen is very much a creature of habit, heading to her tranquil Balmoral estate in the Scottish Highlands each summer for her holidays.
And this year is no exception as she is currently at Balmoral, where she intends to welcome various family members throughout her stay.
However, the Queen’s traditional welcome to Balmoral Castle was axed, prompting fresh fears for the 96-year-old’s health.
Her Majesty had been due to attend the ceremony but it was cancelled and swiftly replaced with a “small, private event”.

The Mirror understands that until just days before she was still intending to be there. It is the first time in decades, apart from the pandemic, that she did not greet well-wishers at the gates to mark the start of her annual holiday.
A royal source said: “The traditional welcome to Balmoral is normally cemented in the Queen’s calendar and something Her Majesty really enjoys, being able to greet locals who travel to see her.
“It’s a bitter disappointment the ceremony will not take place in its traditional form.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain - Majorca

Like his UK counterpart, King Felipe of Spain always head to the same holiday destination with wife Queen Letizia.
They traditionally always spend the first part of August on the beautiful Balearic island of Mallorca and stay at the Marivent Palace, a 20th-century palazzo in the capital Palma.
Other famous faces to be hosted at the palace over the years include Princess Diana, Princes William and Harry as well as the Obamas and the Clintons.
On their holiday this year, Felipe and Letizia were snapped with their daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia browsing the shops of Palma and visiting local markets.
Danish royals - Danish countryside

The Royal Family of Denmark have also holidayed at home this summer - and headed to Graasten Palace in the south of the country.
It proved to be a huge family get-together with Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Fredrik and Crown Princess Mary all there alongside many of their relatives.
They later released a lovely family photo taken in the grounds of the palace on the family's official Instagram account, which revealed the trip had been organised by the Queen herself.
