Royal fans have expressed their sadness as Prince Harry joined the procession behind his grandmother's coffin as the royal family, and the world, pay their final respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan Markle joined her husband, as the Queen's coffin made its way through Westminster Abbey as her state funeral took place. Queen Elizabeth II, who died 'peacefully' on September 8, at Balmoral, her Scottish Highlands home, will be laid to rest at St George's Chapel in Windsor following a service at Westminster Abbey.
Harry and Meghan are among the 2,000 people in Westminster Abbey who have come together to remember the Duke of Sussex's late grandmother, as millions watch the televised service across the globe.
Prior to the funeral, Harry, who marked his 38th birthday on Thursday, travelled down The Mall with a police escort alongside his wife. Harry was seen looking sombre as he was driven in a Range Rover from Wellington Arch, down Constitution Hill and on The Mall towards St James’ Palace.
He then joined his father, King Charles III, his older brother, William, the Prince of Wales, and the Queen's three other children as part of a solemn procession to Westminster Abbey. Harry was then joined by Meghan as he walked through Westminster Abbey behind Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort, and William and the Princess of Wales with their children, and heirs to the throne, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Harry, however, was notably in a mourning suit after he was unable to wear his military uniform to the funeral. An exception was made on Saturday when the Queen's eight grandchildren together staged a heart-rending evening vigil around their beloved Granny’s coffin. The Duke of Sussex, at the foot of the coffin, donned his Blues and Royals No 1 uniform.
Meghan, 41, was also dressed all in black. She opted for a knee-length cape dress which she accessorised with a large black hat covering her hair which had been swept back into a bun and wore pointed court shoes. She also donned a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that were given to her by the late Queen.
As royal fans watched the incredibly moving scenes unfold, they couldn't help but share their sadness at not seeing Harry wear his military uniform after serving for Queen and country. @TomTalksCars commented: "Still feels wrong that Harry’s not in uniform. He served 10 years and deployed twice to Afghanistan. He earned that right."
@ArisAntoniouu wrote: "Very sad to see Prince Harry not in uniform again." @quentin_gesp shared: "Seeing Harry not wearing a uniform and being left in the same boat as Andrew when literally everyone is wearing military uniforms… It feels very wrong. 10 years of military service to wear the same suit as Boris Johnson."
@paigejoannaa commented: "I tried to watch some of the #QueenElizabethII funeral but I just can’t handle how sad it is that Harry couldn’t wear his uniform." @Lou_Stewart_ echoed: "Sad to see that Prince Harry isn’t wearing uniform especially on a day like this."
