Prince Harry's fleeting visit to the UK for King Charles' Coronation has left many royals wondering why he bothered, according to insiders.
The Duke of Sussex spent less than 30 hours in the UK over the weekend as he joined the rest of his family attending his father's coronation. Harry, 38, arrived in London on Friday afternoon while his wife Meghan Markle, 41, stayed in California with their two children - Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“One makes one’s choices,” a source close to the family told Vanity Fair. “To be honest there wasn’t much talk of Harry at all. The focus was very much on the occasion.”
It was reported by The Telegraph that Harry visited Buckingham Palace during his time in London, “slipping in and out of the monarchy’s headquarters briefly without seeing the royal family.” Despite attending the historic event, there was no meeting between Harry and King Charles or Prince William.
Over the weekend, Meghan was spotted hiking and celebrated Archie's fourth birthday with a small party at their Montecito home. It was reported that Harry was determined to make it back in time to see his son on his birthday, and declined an invitation to join the King and his family for an informal lunch.
It was reported that while Harry is on bad terms with much of his family, he would find comfort in his cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well as Zara and Mike Tindall.
“Beatrice and Eugenie are the only ones who really speak to Harry. He’s actually very close to Eugenie and Jack, but there’s very little if any contact with the rest of his family who are still reeling from what he has said and done,” a source added to Vanity Fair.
