In the end, it was all so utterly predictable just when tensions had appeared to calm down between two warring sides.
And when one may have been forgiven for thinking perhaps Harry and Meghan really did just want to tell us about their love story, the familiar unfriendly bombs have rained down once again.
And why wouldn’t they?
This glossy Netflix documentary is not just a one- sided, score-settling exercise.
It’s another chance for Harry and Meghan to stick the boot in on a family they know can never hit back with the same vigour.
By the same token the Duke and Duchess of Sussex know that the chips are stacked in their favour.
After accepting sack loads of cash to spill the beans on royal life, those on the other side are merely seen as collateral damage.
The fact this six-hour series was due to be released while the late Queen was still with us, and possibly suffering from illness, tells you everything about Harry and Meghan’s methods – maximum exposure resulting in maximum devastation.
Confusion over whether Harry references Buckingham Palace or the British media when he says “they were happy to lie to protect my brother” will do little to salvage his relationship with Prince William – which has been utterly torched.
Even the Princess of Wales, so often the glue trying to save the brothers from themselves in the hope their deep bond would not disintegrate entirely, has not been spared.
No one is perfect, least of all anyone in this family.
But Meghan and Harry’s attempts to trash the other royals and their reputations – painting them as bullies and stiffs while they are the ones who have put duty before their own personal gain – cannot be overlooked.
The royals may have been content to keep calm and carry on regardless of what has been said so far.
But if this final instalment goes as far as it appears, they may have no choice but to hit back and risk creating further havoc in an already desperately sad situation.
