Royal Enfield has been prepping its upcoming scrambler-styled Himalayan for debut since it trademarked the Scram name in May, 2021. Coincidentally, new details came to light days before the Indian brand launched the updated Himalayan base model for 2022. After the standard Himalayan enjoyed its time in the sun, even more Scram 411 info surfaced in February, 2022.
With the runway clear for Royal Enfield’s new scrambler-inspired model, the firm announced that it will introduce Himalayan Scram 411 on March 15, 2022. For those that haven’t followed the bike’s development, the Scram will shed the Himalayan’s dual-sport ambitions for more urban sensibilities.
Early reports suggest that the Scram 411 will ditch the 21-inch front wheel in favor of a 19-inch hoop. As a result of the smaller front wheel, many speculate that the Scram will sit lower than the base Himalayan, with some claiming that ground clearance will reduce to 7.9 inches.
While the chassis adjustments will suit on-road riding, the 411 moniker implies that the standard Himalayan’s air-cooled, SOHC, 411cc single will also power the scrambler variant. We also don’t anticipate Enfield engineers adjusting the powerplant for the Scram, as the friendly powerband (24.3 horsepower) and usable torque (23.6 lb-ft) will also benefit the road-biased trim.
Where the Scram 411 most departs from its dirt-going counterpart is its styling. The scrambler influence shines through the single-seat and exposed badge plates. The Scram also discards the Himalayan's windscreen and wraps the single round headlight in a refined cast metal cowl. Even the side panels receive a slight design adjustment to match the Scram 411’s urban form and function.
Like many new Royal Enfield models, the Scram is expected to receive the company’s new Tripper navigation pod as well. It’s been a long road for the new Himalayan variant, but Royal Enfield is poised to compete with the Yezdi Scrambler when the Scram 411 drops on March 15, 2022.
