Royal Christmas cards: What are the 2023 festive messages and who features on them?

If there is one family who knows how to stick to a tradition at Christmas time, it is the royal family.

And 2023 is no different, with members of the family already taking part in an annual ritual.

The cards typically include images of key family members, such as the monarch, their spouse, and their children or grandchildren.

The selected photographs often capture informal and relaxed moments, presenting a more intimate view of the royal family beyond their official duties.

Here are the royal family members who have released their official Christmas cards for 2023 so far:

King Charles and Queen Camilla

2023 is the first year the pair have released a Christmas card as the official king and queen of the UK, after Queen Elizabeth's passing last year.

The couple have used a snap taken at their Coronation Day for their annual Christmas card picture alongside the simple message: "Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year."

They shared the picture on social media and captioned it on Instagram: "This year’s official Christmas card features a photograph of the King and Queen taken in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace on Coronation Day by Hugo Burnand."

Prince William and Kate Middleton

The official 2023 Christmas card for Prince William and Kate Middleton features them beaming alongside their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The five all have coordinated in white shirts and dark trousers for the black and white picture, which they also shared on social media with the caption: "Our family Christmas card for 2023."

But eagle-eyed royal fans have found fault with the picture, with many asking if it is a "Photoshop fail".

They spotted that Prince William’s legs appeared to be missing from behind Princess Charlotte’s chair. Other people commented that Prince Louis's middle finger was also missing.

One social media user explained this by saying: “I think the missing finger is how he’s holding the arm of the chair.

“And I could vaguely get missing limbs behind the chair/and Charlotte. But Louis should have been in long pants. George definitely giving a side eye to the whole enterprise.”

Harry and Meghan

Harry and Meghan are no longer classed as working royals (PA)

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer classed as "working royals", they do not release an official royal Christmas card any longer.

As such, any Christmas cards they send will be private to friends and family.
