Royal Blood 'getting a kicking' for their behaviour towards BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend crowd

Rock band duo Royal Blood have come under fire after frontman Mike Kerr had what looked like a bit of a strop on stage at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend. The 32-year-old mocked the audience and suggested that they didn’t know who the band were.

“Well I guess we should introduce ourselves considering no one knows who we actually are,” Mike began. “'We're called Royal Blood and this is rock music. Who likes rock music? Nine people... brilliant.”

Later on, as he introduced his bandmates, Mike added: “This is Ben Thatcher and he plays drums... everybody say hi to Ben please. We're having to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic. Well done, Ben.”

Pointing to the cameraman on stage Mike then snapped: “Will you clap for us? Will you clap? No, you're busy. Oh yes, even he's clapping. What does that say about you?” As their set came to a close, the singer slammed his guitar on-stage and walked off with his middle fingers in the air to the audience.

The meltdown was slammed by fans on social media with one person commenting: "Every great band I’ve ever seen has never felt the need to do this. Hateful, especially from such a f***ing mediocre crock of s***.”

A second wrote: “This is really sad.” And a third added: "Doesn't matter how s*** the crowd is or how bad the slot is, you don't act like that to a crowd. Poor showing."

Some people did defend the duo, with one person saying: "Legends! Blame the people who booked the acts — weren’t Royal Blood added as a ‘surprise guest’? There’s a reason why they’re playing all over Europe all summer. Playing at Big Weekend is like a uni lecturer teaching at a nursery.” What do you think of the band’s reaction?
