Royal Ascot punter turns £5 bet into more than £300,000 backing every day four winner

A small stakes punter pulled off an incredible Royal Ascot bet to scoop more than £300,000. The racing fan picked every winner on Friday's card, when Frankie Dettori made the headlines on Inspiral.

Just £2.50 each-way was put on seven selections in the amazing day four accumulator. And one by one, the winners rolled in, rounded off by Latin Lover's triumph in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes. Overall the odds for the bet came to 122,889-1, showing just how hard it is to get so many results right on one slip.

Tony Kenny, William Hill spokesperson, said: “Many of our customers try going through the card at the bigger meetings like Royal Ascot or Cheltenham but few manage it.

“However, one pulled off the incredible feat of successful choosing all seven winners on the penultimate day of the royal meeting at a frankly ridiculous price of 122,889-1.

“The £2.50 each-way bet on Meditate, Perfect Power, Candleford, Inspiral, Heredia, Changingoftheguard and Latin Lover won them £307,464.02."

The punter pinned their hopes on a Dettori finding his best form – and his first winner of the 2022 meeting was very easily achieved.

A lack of a run did not stop the winter 1,000 Guineas favourite Inspiral, who put clear daylight between herself and the pack. Dettori had lost out on a couple of his leading hopes, including the Queen's Reach For The Moon.

"It's been a tough week but I'm on the board now and I can chillax a bit," Dettori said after Inspiral thrilled the crowd.

"I must say, my head was thumping last night but I woke up this morning and took a big while to warm up then I buried my head into the racing and thought I still had another few chances."

Home Affairs is Australia's big hope on the fifth and final day, lining up in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes (4.20).

The sprinter is 5-2 with the bookmakers, who may be up against it if Alfred Munnings (2.30pm) and Hurricane Lane (3.40pm) win earlier on the programme.
