A royal artist has discussed how she was ‘savaged’ for giving Prince William too much hair in a portrait of the brothers for the National Portrait Gallery.
Nicky Philipps created the first double portrait of Princes William and Harry together in 2008, with the brothers visiting her house in full uniform on five occasions, so that Nicky could complete the painting.
She revealed in the latest episode of ITV's Keeping Up With The Aristocrats that she had received criticism for appearing to give Prince William more hair than he actually had.
“That was in 2008 when I got savaged for giving William too much hair.
"I think the poor chap lost quite a lot of it in 2009. I don’t know what happened then but it all fell out,” Nicky said.
Nicky also made remarks about how “close” the pair were as the portrait was being painted.
In 2019, Harry said in an ITV documentary that “as brothers you have good days, you have bad days” and he loves William “dearly”.
Prince Harry even commented “he got given more hair”, about William's depiction in the painting, during a charity visit to Barbados in 2010.
He also waded in on the colour of his own hair in the portrait.
Harry said at the time: “I don’t know, I’m a little bit more ginger in there than I am in real life, I think.
"And he got given more hair so, apart from that, it is what it is, but it’s nice.
"It could have been worse."
