Roy Keane visits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as ex-Man Utd boss continues latest job after sack

Roy Keane has visited former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian continues in his first job since being sacked by Manchester United.

Solskjaer was in charge of the Red Devils for two years before being fired last year after a dreadful start to the Premier League season. A hammering at Watford was the last straw for the United hierarchy, who duly sacked the Norwegian just 24 hours later.

He spent nearly a year out of the game, despite several offers to return to management. But he has now finally returned to the sidelines to take charge of his son's Under-14s team, holding training sessions several times a week.

According to local news outlet Tidens Krav, the 49-year-old is helping to create a fun environment. They have already been victorious since Solskjaer began helping to coach them, with the Norwegian having now returned to his home town.

Amid his return to coaching, Solskjaer has now been visited by Keane as he held a training session. According to Nettavisen Sport, Keane stood on the sidelines and watched on as his old team-mate delivered a session.

Keane's appearance is said to have surprised many of the onlookers as he watched on. Despite his stony reputation, Keane was happy to pose for photographs and sign autographs for supporters.

"He was very nice. It is clear that it was fun to meet him. Roy Keane and Eric Cantona. They were the biggest heroes when I was young, says the United supporter," one supporter said of his encounter.

"He said it was an intimate and nice track. It goes without saying that it was great to stand with one of the greatest United legends of all time."

Keane also took a picture with Solskjaer and his squad of young players, though the former United manager refused to comment on why the Irishman had flown in to visit. The former Red Devils skipper was sympathetic when Solskjaer was sacked last year.

"They're not working as hard as the three teams at the top who are brilliant, have a lot of talent. Marcus Rashford said we have to take responsibility, these players don't. It's too late, the damage is done," he told Sky Sports.

"Leopards don't change their spots. Man United have talented players, particularly in possession, but these players don't run, they don't work as a team, they work as individuals. That's not enough to win the big prizes.

"I don't know what's going on on the training pitch but the signs are they don't work hard enough. When they get interviewed after games they're like robots. Maybe Ole was too friendly with them because these lads have done what I predicted and they've thrown him under the bus."

Erik ten Hag has now taken charge of United, after Ralf Rangnick replaced Solskjaer on an interim basis. The Dutchman has had a mixed start to his maiden campaign in charge at Old Trafford, though the Red Devils do sit fifth in the Premier League table.
