Roy Keane stuns ITV viewers with appearance change for World Cup final

Roy Keane got viewers talking ahead of the World Cup final as he sported a change of facial hair for punditry duties.

The former Ireland international was part of ITV's team for the clash between France and Argentina, along with fellow ex-pros Gary Neville and Ian Wright. He has been known to sport a full beard or stubble while on TV, but went with a third option for the final in Qatar.

Some fans might have let the tension get the better of them with Lionel Messi vying for an elusive World Cup winner's medal in his final appearance in the competition. Others, though, spent their time commenting on Keane's new look.

"Siri, show me what would happen if Roy Keane had a baby with Billy Connelly," one fan said. Another asked "Do Roy Keane and Graeme Souness have shares in the same moustache?"

Not everyone was a fan, with one demanding "Roy Keane needs to shave that off asap!!" The facial hair did leave its mark on some, though, including one who remarked: "Roy Keane with his best Tom Selleck impression."

Another said "Extravagant choice of facial hair from Roy Keane here. Fitting for a World Cup final." Meanwhile, as some prepared to decide between the two TV channels broadcasting the final, one argued: " ITV ’s earlier start and Roy Keane’s new facial hair might give them the edge over BBC..."

Keane had been vocal in his comments about the Brazil team's dancing earlier in the tournament, and one viewer reminded the Irishman of the fact. "Roy Keane can’t be criticising the Brazilians for dancing one week then going on national telly with a soul patch the next. Not on," they wrote.

"I love watching Brazil and what they stand for," Keane told Sky Bet earlier in the tournament after coming in for criticism from Brazil's then-manager Tite. "When you think of the World Cup you think of Brazil, I love watching them because they are brilliant at football, but not when they are dancing, or the manager starts dancing, it’s not okay.

"It’s not respectful. Respect your teammates and your opposition. A manager doing a dance on the sideline, you think that’s okay?

“I don’t get how a manager can dance when the game is still going ahead, he’s got an opposition manager ten yards away from him, you’ve got to watch that. The game is about respect. Dance afterwards in the dressing room, or in the nightclub, that’s not a problem.

"But why is it okay for Brazil to do it during the game? If everyone has a dance after a goal, the games will be going on for three days. Do you know what they should start doing, when coaches do their pro licence, show the managers how to do a little dance on the sideline, forget tactics."
