Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Roy Keane has said that picking up a point against Aston Villa will give the team a ‘lift’ ahead of the remainder of the season.
Forest went into the game on a run of five consecutive losses, with the most recent coming in a 4-0 defeat against Leicester City. That result left them bottom of the table on goal difference.
In front of a packed out City Ground a week later, Forest took the lead through Emmanuel Dennis after just 15 minutes. They were however pegged back just seven minutes later through Ashley Young’s strike.

That is how the game finished, with Forest holding on to get their first point in six games. While Keane described the game as ‘poor’, the pundit says that the performance from Steve Cooper’s side will provide encouragement in the fight for survival at the end of the season.
“They will have to be encouraged by that because they have been on such a poor run and before every game when you are near the bottom, it is a must win game and to get something out of the game or get something to hang on to,” he told Sky Sports.
“They showed a bit more spirit from what they have shown previously but when you are down there, you need to show encouragement and it will have given them a lift, but in terms of quality, it was poor.”
Forest are next in action on Saturday when they take on another Midlands side in Wolves at Molineux. Wolves have lost their last three games and are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Bruno Lage.
