Roy Keane slams 'pub team' Leeds United and insists they were 'nowhere near good enough'

Roy Keane has compared Leeds United's defending to a 'pub team' and slammed the club in the wake of their relegation. Sam Allardyce's side saw their faint survival hopes brutally extinguished on the final day, suffering a heavy home defeat to Tottenham.

Harry Kane's brace alongside strikes from Lucas Moura and Pedro Porro were enough to ease the visitors to a comfortable 4-1 victory. In the end, the result at Elland Road was redundant with relegation rivals Everton and Leicester City both picking up narrow home wins.

Leeds' dismal campaign was the subject of discussion by Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane following the full-time whistle. Keane did not hold back in his criticism of the Whites, slamming their defending and mentality in the closing stages of the season.

He told Sky Sports: "They looked weak over the last month or two. Sam’s come in, he’s mentioned they’re fighting for their lives and they concede four goals at home - nowhere near good enough, despite whatever Sam was trying to do.

"He obviously came in too late but defensively they looked so weak. Some of the goals we were looking at there, it’s almost pub team defending. Not strong enough mentally and desire nowhere near good enough."
