Roy Keane's brutal take on Geoff Shreeves' new autobiography

Roy Keane has said that he will read Geoff Shreeves' new autobiography during his free time during Qatar 2022 - but only in order to put him to sleep!

Keane is headed to the World Cup to offer up his expert analysis to ITV viewers, and he will be accompanied in doing so by plenty of big names normally posted with Sky Sports, with the likes of Gary Neville and Graeme Souness also coming on board.

ITV will broadcast 32 matches live from the World Cup in Qatar, and so there should be plenty to keep Keane busy.

However, he will have some time to kill between laying into players and performances at the tournament - and he said he would only read Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves' new book if he wanted to get to sleep!

Taking part in a World Cup preview for Sky Bet with Micah Richards and Gary Neville, Keane outlined that he was eager to read Martin O'Neill's new self-penned memoir 'On Days Like These'.

He told Micah Richards: "I plan to read two books during the World Cup, if I have the time.

"Yours [Richards' new book]. I'll read it.

"Martin O'Neill's got a book coming out, I like Martin I've got huge respect for him."

But when asked by Neville whether Shreeves' new autobiography 'Cheers, Geoff! Tales From The Touchline' took his fancy, Keane was his usual dry-witted self in reply.

"Yeah, I might read that if I'm struggling to sleep when I'm over there," Keane said as Neville laughed.

"It's a plug for the book Geoff, it's the best I could do for you," Neville smiled as Richards struggled to contain his laughter.

Keane concluded: "Of course! No such thing as bad publicity."

Elsewhere in the entertaining preview, Keane talked about his own World Cup memories - and revealed that it was during Ireland's free time off the pitch at USA 94 when his own favourite moment unfolded.

He said: "The highlight of my career in terms of World Cups, obviously was 1994, but that was going to the waterparks in Florida in between the games. It was brilliant.

"Wet 'n Wild Waterpark. Yeah it was brilliant. You know, when you get days off, which we got plenty with Ireland, we'd go straight down to the waterpark. Brilliant, honestly. Wet 'n Wild, recommend it."
