Former Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham praised Roy Keane and named him the best captain he ever had during his playing days.
Sheringham and Keane linked up twice throughout their playing careers, in the early 90s when both were at Nottingham Forest and then at Manchester United around the turn of the century.
Speaking with Boylesports, Sheringham underlined his respect for the Corkman and noted how having Keane in midfield was a huge boost back when he played for Forest.
He said: "I have phenomenal respect for Roy Keane.
"He was a brilliant player.
"In my days at Nottingham Forest I had Nigel Clough with me up front and we weren't the quickest, but we'd have Roy Keane bursting through the midfield and we gelled very nicely."
Sheringham left Forest and began the first of two spells with Tottenham Hotspur in 1992.
Five years later, he signed for Manchester United and there he again linked up with Keane.
Keane was already four years into a 12 year stint with the Red Devils and a well-established and vital cog in United's engine room, and Sheringham said he saw a different animal when he joined Alex Ferguson's team.
"By the time I went to United he changed his game and he was a solid, reliable midfielder who knew his game and knew what do do and when to do it," he continued.
"That's what made him so good.
"Whether he was geeing people up or putting his arm around them - more often than not it was a rollicking!
"He was my best captain I ever had, that’s for sure."
