Roy Keane picks Arsenal rival in his three-man list of greatest-ever Premier League stars

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has put rivalries aside to name Arsenal icon Thierry Henry in his three-man list of the Premier League's greatest-ever players.

The Frenchman is regarded as one of the best players in Premier League history for his exploits in north London from 1999 all the way through to 2007. During his time with the Gunners, Henry won two league titles as well as two FA Cups, but his individual honours list arguably makes for more incredible reading.

Keane made the claim on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football coverage but hardly expanded on his decision, instead simply adding Henry to his shortlist before moving swiftly on. In truth, Henry's achievements both at Arsenal and elsewhere speak for themselves.

Coming runner-up in the race for the Ballon d'Or on two separate occasions while at Arsenal, Henry won two PFA Players' Player of the Year awards in successive seasons, six PFA Team of the Year inclusions, two Premier League player of the season gongs and a place in the PFA Team of the Century - Keane's decision needs very little justification.

The Old Trafford fan-favourite's two other inclusions were a lot closer to home in Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, the latter of whom of course still lines up for United to this day.

With that being said, though he did come off the bench to bag a vital winner against Everton on Sunday, Ronaldo has found first-team football hard to come by for the Red Devils this season. The 37-year-old has just one league start to his name so far this term - the humiliating 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

Keane is clearly a huge admirer and praised Ronaldo's football brain while debating the five-time Ballon d'Or winner with Jamie Carragher. "I think he's got that football intelligence.

"He's a student of the game, he's always wanting to learn and he's obviously got the international goals his record at international level is fantastic.

"I think the way he's learned his trade, as he got older you could see him change his game, of course when he was younger he was a dribbler wanting to beat players but as he's got older he realised and thought 'I'm not getting involved in that.'"

While Ronaldo's supreme talent is undeniable, some would argue that he was operating at the peak of his powers outside of the Premier League with Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

This is unlike Henry, whose best years certainly came while he donned the red and white of Arsenal winning some of English football's biggest trophies.
