Roy Keane has opened up on watching Italia 90 at home as a teenager.
Keane would soon after make the move over to Nottingham Forest as he kick started a glittering football career.
But before captaining his country, Keane would be watching the tournament at home as Jack Charlton's men.
Speaking on ITV ahead of Wales' clash against USA, Roy spoke about watching the tournament at home.
He said: "It was a huge boost in the country for Ireland.
"They obviously made it in 1988 for the Euros but the World Cup was the step up for the country and any young kids. There's a lot of competition with other sports.
"Jack obviously done a brilliant job so 1990 was huge for everyone in the country."
Keane would take part in the 1994 World Cup and travelled to the 2002 World Cup before infamously leaving after a fall out with manager Mick McCarthy.
