Roy Keane names star studded best ever Manchester United Premier League eleven

Rio Ferdinand, Edwin Van Der Sar, Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are just some of the names missing from Roy Keane's all time Manchester United Premier League eleven.

Appearing on Sky Sports this evening, Keane was tasked with picking a star studded best ever United eleven. Showing a clear preference to the players he played with in his early United days, Keane named a side overflowing with Premier League titles.

Keane went for old sparring partner Peter Schmeichel in goals. Saying that although he wasn't as good as everyone said he was, the Great Dane was still a top class keeper.

In midfield, Keane went for Paul Ince and Bryan Robson. Keane waxed lyrical about 'The Guv'nor', and the steel he brought to Fergie's first great team.

"I'd always think with any player, are you happy with him?"

"Are you happy with him in the trenches with you? And I was always happy with Incey"

Keane was also full of praise for Robson. The legendary Man United figure who is lovingly known as 'Captain Marvel' by United fans, was a player Keane admired growing up.

"Robbo and Glenn Hoddle are two I really admired growing up"

"The word I'd use to describe Robbo was courage. He was so brave."

Keane went for the old reliable duo of Ryan Giggs and David Beckham on the wings. Again Keane had only good things to say about Beckham and his commitment to the team.

"When I look at a young player, I think are they training properly? Are they giving their all to the cause?

"Becks showed up and gave his best everyday."

It wasn't all a nice nostalgia trip for United fans this evening however.

When asked to sum up the current United squads' season as a whole prior to tonight's 3-0 victory over Brentford, Keane pulled no punches. Having been critical of United's players all season, the Corkman labelled The Red Devils season as 'disastrous'.

"Disappointment, it's been a disastrous season on a number of fronts"

"Off the field obviously, changing managers, bringing a manager in and giving him a caretaker role which was never going to work," Keane said.

"It's been a long old season and I think they'll be glad to see the back of it."

Once again, Roy Keane had Marcus Rashford in his sights. Rashford has endured a very disappointing season, scoring only five goals and has fallen behind youngster Anthony Elanga in the pecking order.

"Rashford is drifting"

"He's lost the hunger," continued Keane

"He's lost that eye of the tiger. He's got to get that hunger back into his game"

Manchester United weren't the only team in Roy Keane's firing line. Keane whipped out a couple of classic one-liners when discussing Burnley's exuberant celebrations after their victory over Watford at the weekend.

"I don't mind the manager celebrating"

"But I think some of the hugging and kissing is slightly over the top"

Keane has been linked with a return to management in the past few weeks and was hot favourite to take over at Hibs in the SPL. If he does venture back into management, Keane's entertaining punditry will be sorely missed.
