Roy Keane mocks Manchester United’s transfer links with departing Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger

Roy Keane believes Antonio Rudiger would not have been interested in a move to Manchester United because he wants “to win some trophies”.

The German international is set to leave Stamford Bridge after a successful five years this summer, a period in which Rudiger has won the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Having emerged as a key player under Thomas Tuchel after struggling for game time under Frank Lampard, the 29-year-old’s stock has risen to the point where Real Madrid are expected to offer him a lucrative deal.

The former Roma defender rejected the chance to become Chelsea’s highest-paid defender in history and had been linked with a number of Europe’s leading clubs.

United were touted as a potential landing spot, although Old Trafford legend Keane offered a cutting verdict on his former club’s chances of landing such an in-demand player.

Speaking to Sky Sports during their coverage of United’s draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday, Keane said: “I guess they probably did try to approach him.

“I think they have done but he’s thought, ‘no, I want to win some trophies’”.
