Roy Keane makes Man City treble admission as Pep Guardiola's side seek to match Manchester United

Manchester United great Roy Keane would offer Manchester City his congratulations if Pep Guardiola's side secured a treble this season.

Keane was part of the United side that won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999 and City remain in contention to replicate that achievement. A 3-0 win over Championship side Sheffield United took the Blues into the FA Cup final and Arsenal's failure to beat Southampton in the Premier League on Friday night means City are favourites to lift the title.

Guardiola's men are already into the last four of the Champions League, where they face Real Madrid, for the right to meet either AC Milan or Inter Milan in the final. City's next game is at home to Arsenal in the Premier League in what is being billed as a title showdown and Keane feels it is in Europe where the biggest tests will come for the Blues.

Asked if he would be annoyed if City won a treble, matching United's achievement of 24 years ago, Keane joked 'Yeah,' before continuing: "I know how hard it is to win trophies so if City go on to win it then well done because we know how tough it is. But they have a few hurdles to get over, particularly Real Madrid, but they are red-hot favourites for the FA Cup and of course the league. But Real Madrid is the tough one. The biggest problem is getting over Real Madrid."

City have reeled off 11 wins on the trot and are peaking at just the right time as the season enters its final few weeks. And Keane believes Guardiola is the perfect man to have at the helm in such circumstances.

"You smell it, it is in the dressing room," the former United man said to ITV of chasing success at this time of year. "You just feel it, it is around the club. It is exactly where you want to be.

"You need few results to go your way like last night (Arsenal failing to beat Southampton) but you can smell it in the dressing room. It doesn't need to be said. You just know when every game is coming up, it is a must-win game.

"You look at where they are over the next few weeks and the games coming up, the man you want in charge is Pep. If he is in charge you have a great chance."
