Roy Keane lambasts 'pathetic' Tottenham and Harry Kane after Middlesbrough defeat

Roy Keane has lambasted Tottenham after their FA Cup fifth round defeat to Championship side Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

Spurs have largely been inconsistent of late which has seen their challenge for a top four finish falter in recent weeks, and their hopes of ending their trophy drought were dashed at the Riverside after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chris Wilder’s side in extra time.

The north London club haven’t lifted any silverware since the League Cup in 2008 and now only have fourth place to focus on for the rest of the season.

Keane hit out at the mentality of Antonio Conte’s side and insisted that he wasn't shocked by their FA Cup exit.

"You shouldn't be surprised to see Spurs losing these games," Keane said on ITV whilst reflecting on Tuesday night's game.

"Spurs are Spursy, how many times do we have to say it? Whatever is in that club’s DNA, the players – there’s a weakness there.

"Pretty pathetic, I'll be honest with you. But I wasn't surprised. They've gone up to Middlesbrough mid-week, probably a bit cold, no surprises there."

Spurs' failure to end their trophy drought has led many to question if Harry Kane will push for a move this summer in order to win medals as he approaches the latter stages of his career.

However, when Keane was asked what the 28-year-old would be thinking about another season without a trophy he replied: "Well he's part of the problem! He's on the pitch, he needs to do more."

Fellow ITV pundit Ian Wright clashed with Keane and insisted that Kane has been producing on the pitch, to which he retorted: "I'm on about [the Middlesbrough game]. It's not all down to Kane, but if he's your main striker and he's your top guy, he's still got to do more.

"He's still got to lead them. He doesn't lead them that well."

Keane also had his say on whether Spurs can clinch a top four finish this season, but wasn’t optimistic about their chances.

He added: "It's typical Tottenham. It's typical Spurs. You can't trust them."
