Roy Keane feels Manchester United hold a distinct advantage over their top four rivals with their squad, and believes Tottenham aren’t strong enough to overhaul them.
United enjoyed almost the perfect weekend in their race for the Premier League’s top four as they beat West Ham to leapfrog them, while Arsenal and Spurs both dropped points on Sunday.
The Gunners were held to a goalless draw at home to Burnley, while Antonio Conte’s side fell to a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea, to ensure United hold onto fourth heading into the winter break.
Spurs still hold two games in hand over United — and sit just two points behind — although Conte has cut a frustrated figure of late in north London.
And former United captain Keane feels Tottenham will fall down in their hunt for the top four due to their squad, with his old side holding an advantage in that regard.
“You make the point about the squad, Man United yesterday, under pressure, need a big result against West Ham,” Keane told Sky Sports.
“You look at the options the manager has to come off the bench. Rashford, Cavani, Martial – okay, Martial’s had his ups and downs and whatever, but they’re still good options for a manager.
“You look at Conte today, as good as he is he was probably still looking over his shoulder and going this squad, I don’t think, are good enough to get top four.”
Asked whether Spurs had it in them to make up the ground on United, Keane replied: “No.”
Asked what Tottenham were missing, Keane added: “The strength in depth that Man United have got. West Ham are doing well, Arsenal have probably got a slightly better squad.
“Tottenham, the starting eleven is decent, but eleven players is not enough. It’s the squad of players that get you over the line.
“The next few months, there’ll be injuries, suspensions, international games, whatever it might be, that’s when you need the squad like Man United showed yesterday.
“It’s where West Ham might come up short, and certainly where Tottenham will come up short.”
