Roy Keane hid trait for years before making 'bizzare' decision as RTE's Ryan Tubridy recalls meeting him

Ryan Tubridy has praised Roy Keane over his "bizarre" decision to join Instagram.

The Manchester United legend has become a huge hit with his followers since joining the social media platform last year.

And he had people in fits of laughter once again after posting a photo with his grandson at the cinema on Monday night.

The former Republic of Ireland captain commented on the snap: "After arguing with him about whether to watch Scream or Sing 2. I finally won. Sing 2 was brilliant."

Tubridy spoke about Keane on his RTE Radio 1 show on Tuesday and claimed the legendary midfielder hid a side to him for years when he was a player.

The presenter said: "One of the most bizarre decisions Roy Keane made was to go on Instagram, but it's endlessly joyful.

"I think I met him once when he was on the TV show. Did I meet him again after that? No, just the once and he has a great glint in his eye and a giddiness to him that he hid really well for years

"And about five years ago I think he said 'ah to hell with that, I'm having the craic' and he's having loads of fun.

"The latest photograph, he's sipping a Coke in a cinema and he was watching a film with his grandson and the caption says: 'After arguing with him about whether to watch Scream or Sing 2. I finally won. Sing 2 was brilliant'.

"Clever kick at the end. That's fun. So he's having fun with Instagram. It's a nice old place to be I have to say so I can see why he'd be doing that."
