Roy Keane gets found out by Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp celebration explained

Here is your Liverpool morning digest for Sunday, September 25.

'Sloppy' Roy Keane the Anfield villain

Liverpool completed a ‘Legends of the North’ double over Manchester United on Saturday as they came from behind to win the latest Legends match 2-1 at Anfield.

Goals from Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle saw the Reds claim bragging rights against their fierce rivals once again, having already defeated the Red Devils 3-1 at Old Trafford back in May.

A late addition to the United squad was former their captain Roy Keane. He was always going to be something of a pantomime villain when donning his boots at Anfield once again. If such a playing career isn’t enough of a black mark against his name in these parts, then his role as a Reds critic/Sky Sports pundit certainly is.

With Klopp's side enduring a mixed start to the season, the Irishman recently teased the German before Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford back in August, asking him if his side had been sloppy this season. Such a comment was a tongue-in-cheek throwback to a previous spat between the pair when Keane labelled the Reds as sloppy following a 2020 victory over Arsenal.

Fast-forward to today and Keane, who started on the bench, found his loudly named booed when the teams were read out before kick-off. Then, once he took to the field, such treatment greeted his every touch.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle explains Jurgen Klopp celebration

Florent Sinama-Pongolle has admitted he has often dreamt about coming back to Anfield and scoring a goal - and had a gut-feeling that he’d make sure a dream a reality when playing for Liverpool Legends against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Frenchman came off the bench to score a late winner for the Reds’ veterans in front of the Kop to ensure they clinched a ‘Legends of the North’ double over their fierce rivals, having also won 3-1 at Old Trafford back in May.

Signed from Le Havre by Gerard Houllier in 2001, the striker belatedly joined Liverpool two years later after initially remaining with the French club on loan, and would score nine goals from 65 appearances for the club, with his most memorable strike coming when he scored off the bench in the Reds’ famous 3-1 victory over Olympiacos in the Champions League.

And Sinama-Pongolle was delighted to roll back the years by netting his first goal for the club’s Legends side.
