Roy Keane explains X-rated reaction to being booed at Croke Park by Dublin fans

Roy Keane has offered up a creative explanation for what he was doing just as the camera panned away from him at Croke Park during Dublin's match against Cork.

With Dublin predictably strolling to victory by 11 points that day, Keane being spotted among the crowd wound up being the most memorable moment from the occasion.

Particularly because there were a few pantomime boos as well as an entertaining reaction from the former Ireland captain when he appeared to be on the verge of giving them the finger only for the cameraman to skillfully cut back to the action on the pitch.

But now Keane has offered up a more tame explanation for what he was doing.

In a preview snippet ahead of a full interview with Off the Ball, the 50-year-old joked his response was misconstrued.

He said: "Do you know what I was doing...I'd lost a bet and even though there was still plenty of time left in the game I knew Cork were never going to come back.

"So I was just about to hand over the few bob that I'd lost. There ya go, that's what I was doing."

He also added: "Obviously I was disappointed at Croke Park...not with the booing, with the result as Cork got well beaten!

"But it was a good day out and I was well looked after. I can survive a few boos, don't worry."

Funnily enough, there was definitely an element of truth in that as longtime Ireland kit man Dick Redmond shared a pic on the day that made it clear he had won a wager on the game with Roy.

Elsewhere in the chat with Joe Molloy, Keane also shared how often he comes home to Ireland.

He explained: "I definitely get back every three weeks for a few days.

"There's always reasons to get back and I'm very lucky with the work I've got a bit of freedom and I can kind of duck and dive and get back to Ireland whenever I please which is quite regular."
