Roy Keane delivers Chelsea Champions League prediction amid Todd Boehly 'nightmare'

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has given his prediction for Chelsea's Champions League campaign whilst labelling Frank Lampard "lucky" after rejoining the club. The Blues suffered a first-leg defeat against Real Madrid as they head into the second-leg at Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 deficit.

Lampard has lost his opening two games after being appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season following Graham Potter's dismissal. Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana were heavily criticised following their performances at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Ben Chilwell receiving a red card meaning he will miss the return leg.

Kalidou Koulibaly came off injured and is now a doubt for the Premier League clash against Brighton this weekend. The Blues will be hoping they can find a way to progress into the semi-finals of the Champions League as Lampard aims to repeat Thomas Tuchel's success in 2021 after the club legend was sacked halfway through the 2020/21 campaign and replaced by the German.

Keane admitted can't see Chelsea winning the Champions League under Lampard and claimed he 'isn't bothered' by the club legend's return. Keane, speaking on The Overlap Live Tour, in partnership with Sky Bet, said: "Things have changed [in football] – a lot of managers are under pressure and a lot of clubs are looking for managers until the end of the season – good luck to him [Frank Lampard], but I’m not bothered.

"Frank [Lampard] is a lucky boy. He’s had some good jobs."

Gary Neville added: "The guy [Todd] Boehly is having an absolute nightmare, to be fair. It's not going well at all."

When asked whether he can see Chelsea winning the Champions League, Keane added: "I can't see Chelsea winning the Champions League. Chelsea know that they’ve got some excellent players, but there is something missing at the moment.

"Even the last couple of performances, not finding a way to win - I look at the personality of the team and stats would be positive in terms of possession and chances, but they haven’t got that nastiness that the Chelsea teams have had over the last few years.

"You need a bit of luck in the game, but do I see Chelsea going on to win the Champions League or getting top four? I can’t see it.

"They do have quality players, but because they’ve brought so many in together, it does take time to gel, and I don’t think they’ve got that spirit and unity at this moment in time."
