Roy Keane blasts Qatar with 'stained' comment in final World Cup pundit appearance

Roy Keane has taken aim at Qatar once again during his final TV appearance at this World Cup, claiming that the tournament will leave a 'stained' legacy.

The Manchester United legend has been consistent throughout this World Cup, and stated the the tournament shouldn't have been held in Qatar in one of his early TV appearances for ITV.

One month later, and the Irishman's opinion hasn't changed. Despite the wonderful football and exciting games, Keane still feels that the tournament should never have been awarded to the miniscule Nation in the first place.

"For human rights, this World Cup is stained, that’s the bottom line," said Keane.

"The football has been great but it was always going to be great because of the world-class players but it is stained."

The tournament was awarded to Qatar by FIFA back in 2009.

In the years after the awarding of the tournament to Qatar, many members of FIFA were arrested for corruption.

Despite this, and despite horrendous treatment of migrant workers and a litany of human rights abuses, the tournament still went ahead as planned.

The next iteration of the tournament in 2026 will be jointly held by the USA, Mexico and Canada.
