Roy Keane blasted over Harry Kane comments as fan slams "so-called hardman"

Roy Keane has been blasted over comments he made following an incident between Harry Kane and Thiago Silva in Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Kane thought he had given Spurs the lead just before half-time, but referee Paul Tierney ruled that the England striker had fouled Silva in the build-up and the goal was disallowed.

There were mixed views on the decision, with Gary Neville saying it should have been a goal.

He said on Sky Sports: "That is not a foul. No chance.

"I mean look there's an arm there from Harry Kane, but that is not a foul for me."

However, Keane disagreed with his former teammate, saying: "Believe it or not Gary is wrong.

"It was a decent piece of play from Spurs, a counter-attack. I think when you’re running at that pace, at the time when I was watching I thought it was a goal. But he just does lean into him and I think the referee has got that 100% right.

"I think when you’re running at that pace there is (enough contact). And when you’re 36, 37 - you’re going to go down. When you’re at that pace it’s just a little touch you need."

But Spurs fan John Wenham from the Lilywhite Rose Podcast said Keane's comments were "strange" and "bizarre" to hear.

He told Football Insider: “I thought we held our own in the first half.

“We should have been 1-0 up at the break but there was a poor refereeing decision, again.

“I disagreed with Roy Keane’s assessment, that was strange to hear coming from a so-called ‘hardman’.

“Thiago Silva is probably 15 stone and Keane was trying to make an excuse about his age.

“I found that absolutely bizarre, it makes no difference if you are 17 or 37, Thiago Silva can handle himself.

“This is a guy who has led Brazil for years to go down like a sack of spuds.

“Had the goal counted, our game plan would have been working perfectly.

“There was minimal contact and obviously we all know what happened in the second half.”
