Roy Keane begrudgingly makes Liverpool admission after Man Utd demolished

Roy Keane reluctantly praised Liverpool and labelled them as "absolutely amazing" after Jurgen Klopp's side battered Manchester United 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds rain riot at Anfield despite a quiet opening half, scoring seven times inside the final 50 minutes at Anfield as they recorded their biggest-ever win over United. Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez all grabbed a brace for Klopp's men, with Roberto Firmino also finding the net.

It was a scintillating attacking second-half performance from Liverpool, who completely tore their opponents apart with a series of excellent goals. And while hammering United's performance, Keane also hailed the Reds for how they managed to win the game as he begrudgingly pointed out that Anfield is the toughest place to go as a United player.

He told Sky Sports: "Obviously a very, very bad day - shocking. They really, just before the second half it was game over then - United, the senior players, to use all the words they were embarrassing, didn’t show any leadership skills. The goals they gave away were shocking. Tough day for United.

"I know I’ve never been part of a team playing Liverpool for Man United, the players will be embarrassed, no doubt ashamed with the performance. The second half when the going got tough they just went missing, to give up that many goals. When United come to Liverpool, whatever the form, all logic goes out the window at Anfield.

"We’ve said it many times before, it is the hardest place to come as a Manchester United player without a shadow of a doubt, whatever quality you have or form you might be in, and when you go two goals down like that you’ve got to show some sort of pride, fight, spirit, and they didn’t show any of that.

"I’ll go in hard on Manchester United, of course I will, but I also have to say that Liverpool were absolutely amazing. Their energy levels, their quality of play, decision-making, desire. We saw at the end of the game there they were still trying to get bodies in the box, still try to get more goals - Liverpool were back to their very, very best, like they have done over the last few years. Embarrassing day for United though."

It is a result that moves Liverpool closer to the Champions League places as they pile the pressure back on to Tottenham following their defeat at Wolves. They also leapfrogged Newcastle in the process after they were beaten at Manchester City - and Klopp's men are well in the race for a top-four spot.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag's United missed the chance to close the gap on the Premier League top two after Arsenal and City both won on Saturday. It's also their heaviest loss since 1939.
