Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer share the same opinion of Manchester United target Harry Kane

Manchester United's pursuit of Harry Kane in the summer transfer window is an open secret.

The Reds are in desperate need of a centre-forward who can add depth to their front line which has been sorely lacking since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure. MEN Sport understands Kane is still a top priority for Erik ten Hag but chairman Daniel Levy has so far refused to entertain the prospect of selling his record goalscorer.

Speaking in 2019, both Roy Keane and then United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agreed Kane would be an ideal signing at Old Trafford. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former captain firmly set his stall out: "Go and get Kane. Just go and get Kane from Spurs, easy.

"He'll score 20 goals a season with his eyes shut. They (United) are in disarray, so go and get him."

When Keane's opinion was put to Solskjaer, the Norwegian could not be so forthright with his response. However, the 50-year-old did admit Kane was a player who would add quality to his team.

"Roy's quite straightforward, isn't he," the ex-United boss remarked. "For us it's [about] working hard. Getting Anthony [Martial] back is going to be a massive boost for us and I'm sure, when he comes back, that'll help Marcus [Rashford] as well.

"With the forwards we've got and the pace, I'm looking forward to the next few weeks. There aren't many [Robert] Lewandowskis and Harry Kanes - they're like [Alan] Shearer, [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy, fantastic players.

"Ours are different types of players but I like someone who can finish half a chance and Harry does that, but Harry is a Tottenham player."

Ten Hag will need to sell the idea of United as a better alternative to Tottenham which, considering their current situation, should not be hard. Should the striker put the pressure on, Levy may have little choice but to allow the move to go through.
