Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher share damning view on David de Gea in FA Cup final

Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have taken aim at David de Gea, with both calling for Manchester United to replace him in the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard has started all but four games in all competitions this season having been named Erik ten Hag 's first choice keeper. But though he won the Premier League's Golden Glove award, his campaign has been littered with major errors.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and is still yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. That reluctance combined with his performances have led to the belief that Ten Hag will look to bring in a new keeper to at least challenge for De Gea's starting spot next term.

His suitability to the starting spot at Old Trafford was back under the spotlight on Saturday as United were defeated in the FA Cup final by Manchester City. Ilkay Gundogan put City ahead after just 13 seconds, a new record for the FA Cup final.

De Gea stood no chance with the German's stunning volley, but there were questions over whether he could have done better with City's second goal. The ball was swung in from a free-kick out wide towards Gundogan, who was lurking on the edge of the box.

The German hit it first time, with the ball bouncing off his shin and through three defenders. De Gea got a hand to the shot, but could only push it into the bottom corner for what proved to be the winner.

That led to Carragher questioning De Gea's future at Old Trafford, suggesting United should even prioritise signing a new keeper over bringing in a striker. He tweeted: "DDG is a big problem for Man United, is fixing that position more important than them signing a striker."

Legendary United captain Keane also believes that United need to make a change between the sticks during the summer. The Irishman has been a frequent critic of De Gea and launched another blast of the Spaniard after seeing City lift the FA Cup.

"High stupidity from Fred but we have seen that so much over the last few years. City have done this set piece before with someone from the edge of the box. He doesn't hit it that cleanly and it goes through bodies but United have to get a new keeper," Keane told ITV.

"They need a world-class striker and a goalkeeper, and other players for strength in depth too. I am sick of saying it. A top goalkeeper saves that. They get you over the line in big games and that could have been the difference today.

"They need a world-class goalkeeper and he isn't. We will keep talking about it. Some of these players aren't good enough for United. They have to spend the money to get the players United deserve."

Ten Hag will now take stock, with the Wembley showpiece being United's final game of the campaign. He has 11 days to prepare for the opening of the window, with a goalkeeper now likely rising to the top of his shopping list.
