Roy Keane and Ian Wright have heated debate over Cristiano Ronaldo

For the second day in a row, ITV viewers were treated to a heated and highly entertaining debate between Roy Keane and a fellow pundit.

Yesterday, Keane and Graeme Souness argued during the Saudi Arabia v Argentina game. Today, it was Ian Wright's turn to go toe-to-toe with the former midfield hardman.

On the topic of Ronaldo, Keane once again took a sympathetic view of his ex-teammate's situation. The Corkman has defended Ronaldo for his behaviour all season long and believes that Ronaldo's mutual exit from Manchester United is the best possible outcome.

"Ronaldo's a great player. It's like a divorce, the end of a relationship, we know how that feels. And you go your separate ways and life goes on," said Keane.

"Great, great player for Man United. Should've probably left in the summer - whether that's the players fault or the clubs - it was never going to happen.

"The new manager was never going to play him. You cannot have Ronaldo as a sub or a fringe player. It's just not right.

"It's sad, but these things happen."

Wright followed up by claiming that the outcome of Ronaldo leaving is good for Erik Ten Hag. Wright believes that the Dutchman handled a tricky situation as well as he could have. Keane however, believes things could have been handled in a more delicate manner.

"I don't think it's been great management. It's been a difficult situation but I don't think the manager comes out with it.

"People always praise the manager and say you've put a marker down. Part of management is looking after the top players."

At this point, Wright tries to interrupt, but Keane speaks over the ex-Arsenal star and finishes his point.

"You do have to treat world-class players differently. This idea that you treat everyone the same - you don't."

Wright again chimes in, "Yeah but you do want world-class players to fit into the system of the team as well because look at what's going on with the team.

Once again however, Keane repeated his stance that Ronaldo is a proven goalscorer and should be an asset for any team and not a problem. Again, Keane reiterated how he believes Ten Hag could have handled the situation better.

"I go back to it, a guy that scores goals for fun, that can't be problematic.

"In the summer when the manager came in everyone knew he wasn't going to be a part of the team, so let him go in the summer before it got really messy."

Both men did agree however that Ronaldo's departure is probably the best solution for the club, the player and the Manchester United fans.
