Roy Keane aims 'sloppy' Liverpool FC dig at Jurgen Klopp ahead of Manchester United defeat

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane could not resist aiming a tongue-in-cheek dig at Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of Monday night's clash at Old Trafford.

Ahead of watching his side lose 2-1 to United, Klopp conducted a pre-match interview with Sky Sports, joining Dave Jones, Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Keane pitchside to look ahead to the evening's contest. Naturally, the German was quizzed on his side's disappointing start to the season, following their draws with Fulham and Crystal Palace in their opening two matches.

Considering Liverpool, along with Manchester City, have dominated proceedings at the top of the Premier League table in recent seasons, their slow start to this season has been out of character, meaning they are now under pressure to get their first win of the season on the board, particularly after their latest setback at Old Trafford.

Liverpool's stuttering start to the campaign prompted Keane to ask Klopp if his side had been "sloppy" in their opening two games. Keane's choice of words saw him hint at an argument the pair had on Sky Sports back in 2020.

Keane, speaking to Klopp on Sky Sports ahead of kick-off, said: "Have you been sloppy? Am I allowed to say that?"

Keane's question prompted a huge laugh from Klopp, who had evidently remembered their previous coming together. He took it all in good humour and replied by saying: "I would love to say [our start to the season] is just because we are sloppy. Unfortunately, we had other problems. Now we are here, let's go for it. I can't wait, to be honest."

It was back in September 2020 when Keane accused Liverpool of being "sloppy", despite them beating Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield. In response to those claims almost two years ago, Klopp disagreed with Keane's opinion.

The German said: "Did Mr Keane say we had a sloppy performance tonight? Can you say that this was a sloppy performance tonight?

"I'm not sure if I heard it right, but maybe he was speaking about another game as it can't be this game. Sorry, that's an incredible description of this game."
