Roy Hodgson offers update on future after second spell at Crystal Palace comes to an end

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson admitted he has "no idea" whether he will remain at Selhurst Park beyond this season.

The 75-year-old managed the Eagles between 2017 and 2021, and returned on a short-term deal after Patrick Vieira was sacked in March. Palace had gone 12 games without a win when the well-travelled boss returned to South London, but 18 points from the final 10 games of the season was enough for them to stay up comfortably.

Palace rounded off the season with a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest. Will Hughes equalised after Taiwo Awoniyi put the visitors in front, and Hodgson addressed questions over his future after securing an 11th-place finish.

"I have no idea. My situation is very simple: I took on a job, I was pleased to take on the job, Hodgson told Match of the Day.

"The mandate was a simple one, to come in and help the team to get the number of points we need to stay in the league. That's what I've done and what I've enjoyed doing."

"I'm not prepared to make any comment like that," he added when asked if he wanted to stay. "Before I start talking about whether I want to stay anywhere or take on any jobs, someone better offer me one."

While Palace weren't able to finish with a win, they still did enough to finish above London rivals Chelsea. The Blues could have leapfrogged Hodgson's men with a win against Newcastle, but their game also finished all-square.

"[I look back on it] with great pleasure and great pride," Hodgson told Sky Sports when asked about his second stint in charge. "This spell has probably been the more glamorous but the first one was more important because in those three or four years the club could have gone down at any time.

"We had to work very, very hard to make certain that didn't happen. We put a lot of money back into club coffers that meant we could build the academy. That spell, in my eyes, was just as important as this one. This one is more glamorous because to take 18 points from 10 games and only suffer two defeats is a good performance.

"I must say that it is not my work alone. Patrick Vieira started this season off and he won games and got points for the team as well. Between the two of us, we've put the club in the position it wants to be in and the future looks very bright."
