Roy Hodgson next role confirmed after former Liverpool boss reaches 'verbal agreement'

Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is set to stay on as Crystal Palace boss.

According to Sky Sports, a verbal agreement is in place for Hodgson to remain as manager. The report claims that Palace bosses considered long-term options, but Hodgson’s popularity with the players and the way he turned results around in his second spell were key.

The Englishman led Palace to safety this season thanks to five wins from eight matches after taking temporary charge when Patrick Vieira was sacked in March. Ahead of his arrival at Selhurst Park, the former Liverpool boss inherited a side that had not won a Premier League match this calendar year and had scored only once in five games.

Speaking about his future following the conclusion of Palace’s season, Hodgson said: "I haven't spoken to Steve [Parish].

"As far as I'm concerned, I had a contract to do a job here; I've done that, and I will go back to where I was before the phone call and see what the future holds for me."

When asked if he would be open to staying on if asked by chairman Parish, Hodgson added: "I don't know; I'll wait until that day arrives, if it ever arrives. At the moment, I don't have to concern myself with that.

"What's on my table is to see my contract out, thank everyone for the last two and a half months, and hopefully help the team get a result. I hope to leave all my options open."

Hodgson was appointed Liverpool manager in July 2010, succeeding Rafa Benitez after a successful spell at Fulham. However, he was sacked in January 2011 after just 13 of the 31 games he oversaw.

The Reds take on Palace at Selhurst Park on December 9 before the return fixture takes place at Anfield on Saturday, April 13.
