Roy Hodgson agrees to stay on as Crystal Palace manager after impressive return

Roy Hodgson has agreed to stay on as Crystal Palace manager next season.

Palace expect the 75-year-old to formally accept a one-year contract to remain in charge when he returns from holiday.

Hodgson did a brilliant job after returning to Selhurst Park to replace Patrick Vieira in March and guided Palace comfortably to safety with 18 points from his 10 games in charge.

Palace had initially viewed him as a stop-gap solution before appointing a new manager this summer, but his impact has convinced chairman Steve Parish to stick with him.

Hodgson, who turns 76 in August, has held talks with Parish over the summer and has indicated he has the appetite to continue.

He previously spent four years in charge of Palace between 2017 and 2021, and is popular among the squad.

Palace players are due to return for the start of pre-season next week and Hodgson is set to be formally announced before then.

The Eagles kick off the new Premier League season away at Sheffield United on August 12.
