New Delhi: Champion wrestler Vinesh Phogat arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here on Saturday following the heartbreak in Paris Olympics where she was disqualified for being overweight after reaching the 50kg final.
Heavy security
There was a thick security cover as Phogat, who was found 100 grams overweight on the day of her bout earlier this month, landed in the national capital.
Phogat had to stay back in Paris after she had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a joint silver which was eventually dismissed on Wednesday.
Got emotional
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat with other wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik got emotional on her arrival. Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda was also there to welcome her.
Grand welcome
Celebrated wrestler Vinesh Phogat received a grand welcome on her return to the country with hundreds of supporters gathering outside the IGI airport, showing immense solidarity with her.
Heavily garlanded, Vinesh stood in an open Jeep and thanked all the supporters.
"I thank the entire country," she said, her hands folded in humility. (with Agency inputs)
