Ross Wilson details Rangers' work to secure signing of Rabbi Matondo

RANGERS recruitment chief Ross Wilson has revealed that a move for Rabbi Matondo has been in the pipeline for several weeks.

The 21-year-old Wales international joined the Ibrox club this afternoon for an undislosed fee from Schalke.

The winger has penned a four-year contract with the Glasgow giants.

He becomes Giovanni van Bronckhorst's fourth summer signing, with John Souttar, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence all already in the building.

Matondo is certainly an exciting young talent and has earned 11 Wales caps to date.

And Wilson has detailed the club's hard work behind the scenes to get the deal over the line.

He said: “We have been quietly working to secure Rabbi’s signature for the last few weeks since the June internationals finished.

“We wanted to invest in a wide player this summer and we are excited with what Rabbi will bring to our group, with his speed and his general style of play.

"At 21 years-old there’s lots more to come from Rabbi and he will be a strong investment and addition to our group.”

The club's manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst also spoke of his delight to get Matondo on board.

He added: “I’m really pleased to welcome Rabbi to Rangers. I spoke last week about my desire to add more attacking quality to my squad, and we all believe Rabbi will do that.

“He will bring many strong attributes to the team, and I am really looking forward to seeing him in training this afternoon for the first time."
