Ross McCrorie targets Scotland call as Aberdeen star looks to follow brother Robby into Steve Clarke's plans

Ross McCrorie hopes to follow in his brother Robby's footsteps in the not so distant future - with the Aberdeen midfielder targeting a return to the Scotland set up.

McCrorie came through the Rangers youth academy with his brother before he joined the Dons in 2020 on loan before earning a permanent move to Pittodrie, but since his move he has only earned one call up to the national squad back in 2022. He has watched goalkeeper Robby be drafted into the set up and hopes his form so far this season will make a case to be in Steve Clarke's Scotland thoughts in the near future.

Robby earned a call-up as an understudy to Liam Kelly and Craig Gordon, and certainly will have invoked a new competitive rivalry in the McCrorie household. And Ross claims that it is now the next step in his career after top performances under Jim Goodwin. Speaking to Red TV, he said “One aim is to push for the national team. I feel as if I’m good enough and have shown I’m good enough but I need to bide my time.

“There’s a lot of boys in the squad I played with in the under-21s. With my brother going in it gives me extra motivation as well but I need to focus on Aberdeen. I need to keep playing well and try to go to another level which I feel I can.”

The midfielder also opened up on his relationship with the Dons faithful, admitting he thought he would get "stick" from fans due to his history with Rangers. He continued: “The backing I’ve had from the fans has been great.

"I thought I would get a bit of stick given where I came from but from day one I’ve been welcomed with open arms and they couldn’t have been better. I’m fairly settled up here. It’s been brilliant.

"We’ve chopped and changed a few managers but I wouldn’t change anything from the experiences I’ve had. Hopefully we can bring a trophy back to the club one day that would be great.”
