Ross McCrorie reckons Aberdeen simply weren't good enough as the fell to a brutal 4-0 loss against Dundee United on Saturday.
The Dons went into the Tannadice clash on the back of an emphatic 4-1 win over Kilmarnock and were cheered on by a four thousand strong away following while United sat bottom of the Scottish Premiership table. However things turned sour as Aziz Behich and Tony Watt fired the Tangerines two goals in front at the break before a Jamie McGrath pen and an own goal from McCrorie made sure the three points would remain on Tayside.
And vice-captain McCrorie insists his side have got to put the performance behind them and concentrate on how they can improve on their inconsistent run of form ahead of meeting Hearts this weekend, who sit only a point above the Dons. "I think at the end of the day it just wasn't good enough. The performance wasn't there and most of all the result wasn't there," revealed McCrorie.
"We came in after the game, we did our analysis of it but at the end of the day we just need to park it now. We all know it wasn't good enough and we need to concentrate on Hearts this weekend and try and rectify the disappointing performance and result that we have just had."
While Pittodrie boss Jim Goodwin opened up on the meeting he had with his squad and how there were some "home truths" discussed to get to the bottom of the dismal showing. He said: "I have been pleased with the reaction the players have given me this week up until now in training. We had a long meeting on Monday morning and a few home truths and a lot of honesty from the group and that's the most pleasing aspect for me.
"There's nobody here among the staff or amongst the players trying to shy a way from what happened on Saturday. It was a performance we didn't anticipate. We were going into the game on the back of a very good performance against Kilmarnock and the guys were in a good place."
