Aberdeen want to bring Ross Doohan back to Scotland after completing the signing Ester Sokler on Thursday.
The Dons completed the £300,000 signing of striker Sokler and now turn their attentions to adding another Scottish keeper to their squad for their added European and domestic commitments. Boss Barry Robson is keen to bring in another shot-stopper to come in and push No. 1 Kelle Roos. They currently have the experienced Joe Lewis as a back-up but he goes into the final year of his contract.
Robson would prefer to bring in another Scot to help with the new registration rules for European football and Doohan is one of the names he is considering. The 25-year-old moved to Forest Green Rovers earlier this season but they have since been relegated to England’s League Two. Doohan came through the ranks at Celtic and had numerous loan spells before he joined Tranmere Rovers in 2022.
Sokler has signed a three year deal and will add competition to Duk and Bojan Miovski, after being granted a work permit. Barry Robson said “Ester is a striker with all the key attributes needed to be a success here and he further strengthens our attacking options for next season,” Barry Robson said.
“He fits the profile of striker we were searching for, someone who can continue to develop in the correct environment and is another good example of our overall recruitment strategy, looking further afield for players who we believe can make a positive impact here.
“We hope he will make as smooth a transition as Rama, Bojan and Duk have since they joined the club, and we look forward to working with Ester.”
Aberdeen have already done business to sign Leighton Clarkson from Liverpool and Nicky Devlin from Livingston and they are still pushing to sign Go Ahead Eagles defender Jay Izdes.
He has still to make a decision despite the fact the Dons’ tabled their best and final offer last month. Aberdeen are also confident of bringing Graeme Shinnie back from Wigan Athletic in a permanent deal, while Croatian playmaker Tonio Teklic from Croatian side NK Varazdin is also a target but that deal is littered with complications.
