Ross Barkley 'floated' to Rangers as transfer path cleared by agent but Premier League boss leaves door open

Free agent Ross Barkley has reportedly been offered to Rangers after leaving Chelsea.

The Stamford Bridge club cut their losses on the 28-year-old after the England international failed to make his mark during a four-and-a-half spell in in London. Barkley penned a £15million signing from Everton in 2018, and was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa last season, but his career has largely stuttered since leaving Goodison Park as one of the Premier League's top prospects.

Rangers have been touted with considering a deal for the free agent with transfer deadline day looming, having also been tipped as a potential target for Celtic earlier in the summer. Barkley's wages could be a deterring factor amid reports he earned a staggering £200,000-a-week package with the Blues, but Football Scotland report Barkley's name has "come up in discussions after his agent floated his name to the Gers recruitment team about a possible link-up."

The Scottish Premiership side don't appear to be the only side considering a move for Barkley. David Moyes has left the door open over a potential reunion at West Ham.

Moyes handed Barkley his debut at a youngster at Everton, and wouldn't dismiss the idea of bringing the midfielder to the London Stadium. When quizzed over a move for Barkley, he said: “I would never rule anybody out but I’ve got to say on Ross, I gave him his debut at 16 and he’s had a really good career.

“He’s played for England and played for big clubs. If it is not us, I wish him well wherever he does go."
